Wang Wang Crispy Curry Puffs: A Must-Try Snack at Old Airport Road Food Centre

Wang Wang Crispy Curry Puff is one of the most famous stalls in Old Airport Road Food Centre, known for its flaky, crispy, and tasty curry puffs. The stall is run by a friendly uncle and auntie duo, who create these simple yet amazing snacks. They make each batch fresh, resulting in a long waiting time, but it's worth it. During our visit, we had a short chat with them, and they expressed their frustrations during this pandemic period. Many customers weren't willing to wait for freshly made puffs, despite the high volume of orders. With no dine-in restrictions, customers don't feel the need to wait for 20 minutes for puffs. To make matters worse, some customers were being difficult, not wanting to wait long, and asking to buy a few pieces from other orders. We urge everyone to be respectful and patient when ordering from Wang Wang Crispy Curry Puff. If you want freshly made delicious puffs, be nice and wait for your turn. We tried four different flavors: Original Curry Ch...

Roasted Brown Sugar Pearl Fresh Milk @ Daboba

[UPDATED] Permanently closed Need some bubble tea love? Head down to Daboba for their roasted brown sugar pearl with fresh milk delight. It wasn't tea, but it sure as hell packs a powerful satisfaction punch. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Brown sugar pearls, brown sugar syrup glazing the inner sides of the cup, ice, fresh milk, and a generous scoop of their delightful creamy cheese. Brown sugar powder was haphazardly sprinkled all over the top, followed by scorching using a butane torch. It was almost like having a crรจme brulee in a cup. ^^ The pearls were big but chewy, while the cheese cream and fresh milk married marvellously together with the brown sugar syrup. The defining ingredient was definitely the caramelized brown sugar. The scorching accentuated its taste and texture, providing its special characteristics. In conclusion, brown sugar was everywhere, which guaranteed a sweet ol' sweet dessert. This cup o...

Chicken Biryani & Butter Chicken @ Casuarina Curry Restaurant

Had a strong craving for Indian food and feeling lazy, YumzYumz ordered food delivery from Casuarina Curry Restaurant. Got their chicken biryani and butter chicken to satisfy ourselves. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Chicken was simply tenderlicious and covered in thick spicy curry gravy. Basmati rice was fluffy and nicely perfumed with spice fragrance. The amount of biryani rice was enormous and could easily feed 3 normal sized stomach space. And on the side was a heap of ah char which intensifies the taste buds further. $9.10 for this huge pack. Additionally, we got an order of butter chicken, which we did not expect it to be some reddish creamy dish. We thought it would be in a form of golden fried chicken in butter. ^^ It had a pool of oil/butter at the top, thick and creamy body, rich in flavour, but the amount of chicken chunks was paltry and definitely wasn't worth $8.03. Although drizziling ...

Albert Street Prawn Noodle

YumzYumz head down to Old Airport Road Food Centre during Phase 2 Heightened Alert dabao period. We decided to try Albert Street Prawn Noodles and here is our food review of it. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) It tasted marvelous even though it was a takeaway. But it would definitely taste better if we had it there. Soup was amazingly deep and infused with prawn umami goodness, perfumed with prawn fragrance. Presence of sweet prawn head butter in the aromatic soup, lingers in every mouthful. There were 6 halved fresh and springy prawns, which was pretty generous. But the fried pork lard were sadly soggy and not appetizing, probably thrown into the soup during packing. Albert Street Prawn Noodles' soup base is definitely comparable to Beach Road Prawn Mee's version. It cost $5.50 for a bowl of irresistible prawn noodles at Old Airport Road Food Centre, which YumzYumz recommends. ^^ Albert Street Prawn Noodle Locatio...

Braised Pig Trotters @ Yong Ji Bak Kut Teh

Braised pig trotters usually comes along with bak kut teh, and naturally, we had to try out Yong Ji's pig trotters after getting their bak kut teh. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Eng Kee Bak Kut Teh or Yong Ji Bak Kut Teh, their pig trotters were huge and generous in portion, served on a huge plate together with bones in tact, as well as the lovely dark caramelized gravy. Meat was tenderlicious, plenty of lean parts, as well as collagen filled fats under its smooth and tender skin. Gravy wasn't overtly salty, intense richness and pairs harmoniously with the steamy rice. It's fatty parts were unctuous yet satisfying. In fact, one can't be too health conscious when having pig trotters. ^^ Priced similar to their bak kut teh at $6.50 a plate and $0.50 for a bowl of rice, it can easily be shared between 2 pax. We highly recommend Yong Ji Bak Kut Teh's pig trotters at Ang Mo Kio. ^^ Yong Ji Bak Kut Teh Openi...

Saucy Char Siew Wanton Mee @ Hup Seng Huat Cooked Food

Simple and tasty wanton mee at Teck Ghee Market, YumzYumz tried out Hup Seng Huat Cooked Food's wanton noodles and let's see how it faired. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Everywhere we go, there is definitely a stall selling some variations of wanton mee. Whether it is saltier, great char siew, miserable wantons or oilier, there is definitely some difference in certain elements. For Hup Seng Huat Cooked Food's wanton noodles variation, noodles were mundane, but their sauce mix was somewhat special. They mixed in the sweet and savoury sauce from their char siew together with the various soy sauces and probably pork lard, and had hints of white pepper. Char siew were chunky, tender and with additional sauce on them, went really well with the noodles. Finally on the sides were 3 plump wantons, not overtly big nor miniature, fits nicely in one mouthful which is how wantons should be. Nicely seasoned fillings that p...

Kway Chap @ Boon Tong Kee Kway Chap Braised Duck

A branch outlet from Zion Road's Boon Tong Kee Kway Chap & Duck Rice, YumzYumz tried out their kway chap and find out how it tasted. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) For 1 pax portion, it cost $3 and the amount of ingredients and kway was really generous. Kway was silky and soft, busking and soaking within the tasty savoury soup, which had subtle porky and herbs flavour infused. Fried shallots were nice to have to elevate and enhance the overall taste. Tau pok, tau kwa, braised egg were mundane yet satisfying. Big and small intestines were hedonistically rich in flavour and texture, pleasantly lacking any foul smell which indicates great cleaning technique. Thick dark gravy covered every inch with strong depth of intensity of flavour. However in a way every item were ubiquitously having the same dark soy sauce based gravy. Their slices of braised duck hidden beneath everything were tenderlicious, but severely lacking...

View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) As stated on their menu as "The High-Roller Angel Hair Pasta", it was in every way worthy of such terminology. Every single ingredient was exotic and amazing, hitting every note with perfection. Caviar & Edible Gold Flakes A teaspoon sized serving of caviar intricately placed right at the top for elegance, and of course adding edible gold flakes gave the sense of luxury, although delivers no value to taste but exclusivity. Crunchy Sakura Ebi Generous amount of light and crunchy sakura ebi ( shrimps ), provided subtle savoriness when taken together with the immensely flavourful noodles. Mountain of Ikura Roe Plump orbs of salmon roe filled the side with gold flakes laid upon, providing the visual beauty and ...

Ah Li Japanese Fusion Mee Pok @ Li Yuan Mee Pok ๆ —ๅŽŸ้บต่–„

Fusion between Japanese flavour and local bak chor mee, Li Yuan's mee pok made headlines some years back with it's uniqueness. Let's find out how we thought of it. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) They offer 2 flavours; miso and shoyu, with dry or soup versions. We got both flavours and the main difference was the sauce mix. Ingredients were exactly the same. Miso was salty, subtle sweetness yet earthy, leaving a pleasant sweet after taste. Shoyu was light, savoury and full of umami flavour. Other mix were thrown in as well to create a harmonious and intricate creation. Noodles were blanched nice and soft, coated evenly and holds well with the sauce mix. Scattered on top were fluffy and light fried pork lard pieces, unlike some other stalls which are thick and flat. They were addictive like potato chips but even better. Next were 2 thick slices of chashu, fatty and tenderlicious, giving the extra bite and volume ...
