Soy Sauce Chicken Hor Fun @ Hong Kong Soy Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle

YumzYumz tried out Hong Kong Soy Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle at ABC Brickworks hawker center, which is adjacent to Wow Wow West. We did not had their chicken rice nor noodles, but their hor fun. Let's find out how they fared. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Chicken breast meat was tough and dry, but with gooey savoury skin. It was almost as if there was a layer of jelly beneath. But the chicken flesh was horrifically blend. Fried pork lard was flat and disappointing. Horfun were gooey, heavy and unpalatable. To be fair, this was probably not their star item, and at $3, it had quite a huge portion. Filling but barely edible. Boneless Duck Noodles @ Wen Ge Charcoal Delights

One of the popular stalls among this small inconspicuous coffee shop in the heartlands of Hougang, Wen Ge Charcoal Delights wipes up a delectable duck noodles dish. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) One of the attraction was the duck being boneless, since they specifically had to specify it in its name. Next was its aromatic oily yet crispy skin, and its tenderlicious smokey flesh. Although it was the toughest part of breast meat, its texture was almost like thigh of the duck, undoubtedly delightful. Its defining ingredient however was definitely its thick gooey dark gravy. Its richness was luscious and had a lingering taste in every bite. It married harmoniously with the mundane noodles and laboriously made roasted duck. And at the price of $4.80 and such quality, it is obvious Wen Ge Charcoal Delights business has a strong following. Do cater for a longer queuing time during meal times. YumzYumz recommended! Bib Gourmand Bak Chor Mee @ Tai Wah Pork Noodle

Located on the 2nd floor of Hong Lim Market & Food Centre, Tai Wah Pork Noodle awarded the Bib Gourmand in the MICHELIN Guide Singapore, for their bak chor mee. What to eat at Hong Lim? This is one you should not miss. Priced at $6, $8, $10, you get to choose the type of noodles. Mee pok or mee kia. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Tee Poh ( dried sole fish ) The only piece given for our $6 order was a paltry tiny piece, but crunchy and savoury. Noodles and sauce Their mee kia noodles were slightly thicker than the usual wanton noodles, which holds the sauce well. It didn't had the overwhelming alkaline taste and blanched to a perfect consistency. Sauce mix was not overtly covered in black vinegar, which allowed us to still taste the sweetness of the pork, the savouriness and chili of the sauce mix. Pork, Dumpling, and Stuff Porky, sweet and soft. These were the taste that hit us...

Wagyu Cheese Burger @ Columbus Coffee Co

Cheese burger with wagyu beef, overflowing melted aged cheddar at Columbus Coffee Co. Lets find out if it is worth its price. A thick patty of wagyu beef, pinkish on the inside and grilled nicely on the outside with a slight crisp. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Buttered up brioche buns grilled to a pleasant sheen and browned, topped on 2 onion rings, or as stated in their menu, "fried sherry-battered onions". We didn't taste any sherry or any flavour, as everything was covered in their generous dose of melted aged cheddar. Beneath these were purple coleslaw to add the needed crunchy texture. And finally on the sides were some curly fries. Was this wagyu cheese burger worth the price of $21.40? It was certainly tasty, with the right flavour, texture, combination. Certainly not your conventional McDonalds and more of a connoisseur level burger. But definitely not something we will get on...

Unparalleled Flaky Fish and Chips @ Wow Wow West Genuine

There are innumerable places in Singapore peddling their own version of fish and chips, yet far too few get it right like how Wow Wow West Genuine makes them. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Their sides of fries, coleslaw, beans were definitely not the case in point, but rather the HUGE double slabs of golden deep fried fish fillets. Each slab was larger than our palm, covered in crispy breaded crust. Along with their own sauce concoction of tartar sauce, its flaky flesh and crunchy crust married harmoniously. It created an almost unparalleled enjoyment on our taste buds. And of course squeezing the juice from the huge wedge of lemon upon the fish lifted its acidity for another level of taste. No words could recreate what this amazingly tasty dish provided us, but probably a hedonistic self indulging pleasure. At $8 a plate, Wow Wow West Genuine's fish and chips could probably be rated above most others. Wow Wow West Ge...

Famous Laksa @ 928 Yishun Laksa

The famous and "legendary" Yishun laksa that we have all heard about, is located at Yishun block 928. We visited them during a weekday lunch time and the queue was consistently around 10 to 15 pax. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Their curry broth was thick and creamy, and mildly spicy. It had a heavy coconut milk presence with mild curry powder and tiny bits of hei bi for the extra bite. The aftertaste after downing a few spoonful was pleasant and delectable, leaving a lingering luscious taste in our taste buds. Ingredients were simple and straight forward, such as bean sprouts, fish cake slices, tau pok and half an egg. The only out of the norm ingredient was crab sticks. The defining ingredient was definitely their homemade chili paste which we added on. It had a deep and fragrant taste with tiny bits of hei bi and irresistible spicy. Sadly, their default orders do not come with cockles. E...
