Prawn Noodles @ Happy Garden AMK

Comparing the queue with Xi Xiang Feng Yong Tau Foo, the queue at Happy Garden was significantly shorter. Although different food on the menu, the quality is definitely on par. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) The noodles sauce mix was deep and intense, prawns were fresh and crunchy, pork slices were tender, and a generous amount of fried pork lard was served. At $3.50 a bowl, a wonder concert of ingredients were brought together to create one satisfying prawn noodles. Not to forget the deep deep flavoured prawn broth. Ordering the dry version gives you best of both worlds. But if you fancy the soup version, you aren't really missing out much. These pictures really does give it justice of what it truly is. A truly underrated stall that serves what prawn noodles should be. Happy Garden AMK Opening Hours and Location Monday 7:30am–12:30pm Tuesday Closed Wednesday 7:30am–12:30pm Thursday 7:30am–12:30pm Friday 7:30am–12:30p...

Soulful Mutton Soup @ Hong Wen Mutton Soup

Deep deep intense mutton soup at Bukit Timah at $5 a bowl, and 50 cents for a bowl of rice to go along with the comforting bowl of goodness. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) The meat were so soft, it almost melts in the mouth. Bones glide down and separating any meat that was previously on. Although you will find lots of ginger in the soup, which is to cover up the gamey taste from the mutton, there will still be the aromatic mutton flavour. In fact, when you enter the hawker centre, one of the many aromas you will sense first will be from this stall. Although we believe it is not to everyone's preference, it is definitely something everyone should try at least once. Ah Zhen Wanton Mee @ Bukit Timah Market & Food Centr

Wanton noodles may be common, but nice wanton noodles are not as common as anyone thinks. Ah Zhen Wanton Mee at Bukit Timah is one that is somehow under rated. Friendly uncle auntie stall holders, they add the pleasant experience of hawker food. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) At $3 a plate, you get acceptable charsiew slices. Not too dry, not too fatty, just nicely charred flavoured pork. Nothing much to shout out for its fried wanton, but it is nice to have it since most other wanton noodle stores don't offer it at this price. As inconspicuous as their plate wanton noodle may seem, their noodles are chewy, bouncy and well flavoured. Sadly and ironically, the one thing that is in the name of the dish, their wantons, were sadly floating in the mediocre soup. Two to be exact. Fillings were almost non existent. Have you ever bitten into a dish so fragrant, so utterly delectable, that you momentarily transcended reality? No? Your culinary saviour is here to guide you through the gastronomical nirvana that awaits at this humble hawker stall. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) The Culinary Art of Carrot Cake Making Let's get one thing out of the way first: when I say carrot cake, I'm not talking about your grandma's spiced cake with cream cheese frosting. This is the Singaporean carrot cake, a savoury, eggy, radish cake delight that's a staple in local cuisine. And at He Zhong Carrot Cake, they've elevated this simple dish to an art form. Observing the masters at work is akin to watching a well-orchestrated ballet. The a...

Sin Chew Satay Beehoon @ Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre

As usual, any long queue at any stall means it is famous, it taste great, it will be awesome. With reviews everywhere online that this stall is a must try, so we queued and we tried. It took about 15mins on a weekday at 11am. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Was it good? It sure was decent and at most mediocre. Was it worth queuing for 15minutes? Not really, for the attitude of the old lady (probably the boss) wasn't really welcoming. The arrogance smeared all across her face was too much to stomach, let alone enjoy the meal. Let's break it down, if there were anything to be broken down.... The most important aspect of a satay beehoon has got to be its sauce. Let's start from there. The sauce was not overly salty, no texture, or rather smooth and you can't feel the peanuts. It wasn't blend or overpowering. We guess that is why it is popular. There was ONE prawn for a $4 plate, Four...

Spinach Noodles Wanton Noodles @ Huang Kee (黄记) Hong Kong Style Wanton Noodle

If any of your peers mention that there isn't any good food in Sengkang, point them in the direction of Compassvale Bow. There sits a kopithiam where you can find one of the best wanton noodles you can get. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) We tried Huang Ji Spinach Wanton Noodles, at $5 a plate. It is similar to their normal Wanton Noodles, just 50 cents more for spinach noodles. Frankly speaking, the noodles doesn't really taste any different from the usual mee kia. We will list out all the awesomeness of their dishes. Firstly, their secret sauce that is poured onto the well blanched noodles and generous chunky tender char siew. Secondly, their Hongkong kailan is one of its kind. You seldom see Hongkong kailan being served with Wanton Noodles. It may be the broth that was used to blanch the vegetables, but the Hongkong kailan tasted slightly sweet and savoury. Thirdly, they have their deep fried wantons ...

Roti Prata Kosong @ Prata Raya AMK Hub

Located right outside of Ang Mo Kio Hub, it is really easy to find and get your craving of roti prata right in the central of Ang Mo Kio. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) With COVID-19, it is now really tough to get a seat. Hence, customers usually get theirs with delivery, or take aways. Our experience with deliveries for theirs, is that the prata gets really soft. Not really what you will want in your roti pratas. The freshly made ones you get from dining in, isn't exactly what you may consider cripsy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. But at least it is better than the ones you get from deliveries. The pratas isn't oily, taste nice of ghee, SLIGHTLY crisp on the outside. They have this forever going promotion, or rather, they should call it their set meal. It is either 2 kosong OR 1 egg, with a hot coffee or tea, for $3.30. An egg prata cost $2 as of this article. The curry sauce is thick an...

Chye Lye Ah Ma Mee Sua 再來阿嬤麵線 at Admiralty

Chye Lye Ah Ma Mee Sua at Kampung Admiralty Hawker Centre is one of our favourites whenever we are the vicinity. Especially on a cold rainy day, a $4 bowl of Ah Ma Mee Sua will no doubt warm up your butts. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) From the picture, you can see there are a bunch of coriander floating around. For those who treats coriander like "poison"and avoid them at all cost, remember to ask for none to be added. But it really lifts the flavour of the already awesome soup, together with the added Hua Diao Jiu, it will create an explosion in your mouth, and warms your soul as it goes down your throat. The other highlight is the soft, handmade porkballs. We won't pretend as if we know their secret of such heavenly balls, but just shout out how amazing they are. There are slices of pork liver, stewed mushrooms, and meatballs. The mee sua noodles were firm yet soft (contradicting, but it r...

Chey Sua Carrot Cake 青山菜頭粿

What do you do when you are at Toa Payoh West Market? Of course we had to head to Michelin Bib Gourmand awarded carrot cake stall. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Chey Sua Carrot Cake 青山菜头粿 is really famous. Anyone who loves carrot cake DEFINITELY heard of them. If you haven't considering not telling others that you like carrot cakes. We were there at 8am, and we were already on a 25 minutes waiting list. We got a pager buzzer and waited. True enough, it really was a 25ish minutes wait. Time for the taste test. First off, presentation was good. well plated. A layer of chili sauce smeared on the top, garnished with spring onions. It was cripsy on the outside, soft on the inside. The taste? Honestly, it was mostly the chili sauce and hints of chye poh (Chinese dried radish). Not really a big fan as it was extremely oily. Lots of oil went into this plate of mashed up well-oiled carrot cake. Furtherm...
