Chey Sua Carrot Cake 青山菜頭粿

What do you do when you are at Toa Payoh West Market? Of course we had to head to Michelin Bib Gourmand awarded carrot cake stall.

Chey Sua Carrot Cake 青山菜头粿 is really famous. Anyone who loves carrot cake DEFINITELY heard of them. If you haven't considering not telling others that you like carrot cakes.

We were there at 8am, and we were already on a 25 minutes waiting list. We got a pager buzzer and waited. True enough, it really was a 25ish minutes wait.

Time for the taste test. First off, presentation was good. well plated. A layer of chili sauce smeared on the top, garnished with spring onions. It was cripsy on the outside, soft on the inside.

The taste? Honestly, it was mostly the chili sauce and hints of chye poh (Chinese dried radish). Not really a big fan as it was extremely oily. Lots of oil went into this plate of mashed up well-oiled carrot cake.

Furthermore, as their business is so good, the attitude of the stall owners isn't really welcoming. But since money is rolling in and they are busy, we can't expect them to be any more welcoming either. But from what we know of other more successful eateries, customer relations and food goes hand in hand.

Nevertheless, we believe their carrot cake is EXTREMELY over-rated. But if you wish to give it a try (assuming you have never tasted it), do give it a go if you want your arteries to be clogged up.

Hunan Pork Belly at Xiang Xiang Hunan: Crunchy, Spicy, and Lip-Smacking Good

You know a dish is that good when you keep coming back for it. And that’s exactly what happened on our third visit to Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine 湘香湖南菜 —this time at AMK Hub. We already had high expectations from our past experiences, but once again, their Hunan pork belly blew us away. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) What Makes This Hunan Pork Belly Stand Out? First off, let’s talk about the star of the show: their Hunan stir fry pork , made with a heavenly combo of Iberico pork belly and lean pork. It’s a dish that really brings out the spirit of Hunan cooking—bold, fragrant, slightly spicy, and loaded with green pepper aromatics. The pork belly is wonderfully fatty and tender, with that unmistakable richness that Iberico pork is known for. The lean pork adds a nice balance so it doesn’t get overly unctuous. And then there's the rabbit ear fungus. Yes, rabbit ear fungus—also known as Mu Er or Yunnan black fungus . It...

Hooi Kee’s Hong Kong Style Roasted Char Siew and Roasted Chicken Rice: A Decent Meal?

Looking for what to eat in Ang Mo Kio, we got ourselves a simple order of char siew rice with roasted chicken for this round of chicken rice food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Char siew pieces were fatty and lean, a good ratio combination, with the fats roasted to a melt in your mouth consistency. We loved the gravy that drizzled onto the charred and caramelized parts, which elevated its taste and flavour. Coupled with the tenderlicious roasted chicken, which was soft and juicy even for their breast meat. Skin was crisp and tasted lovely with their briny sauce. Rice was fragrant and not greasy, and somewhat addictive together with the char siew gravy and chicken sauce. Chili was mundane, runny and spicy, complimenting the rice and chicken perfectly. @yumzyumzsg Hooi Kee Hong Kong Style Roasted - Roasted Chicken Rice with Char Siew Visit YumzYumz.com for their food review. #sgfood #foodlover #foodreview #f...
