There are two sheng mian stalls at Kebun Baru Market and Food Centre, Seletar Sheng Mian and Mian Fen Guo vs De Ji Cooked Food.

Both stalls command long queues during rush hours. Which sheng mian stall does YumzYumz think is better?

Here is a quick overview of how both sheng mian stalls faired in our assessments.

Deep Flavoured Soup Sheng Mian 生面 @ De Ji Cooked Food (德记熟食)

Noodles were well cooked, soup was absolutely amazing, full bodied with tons of flavour. Abundant with ingredients, simply amazing.

Sheng Mian @ Seletar Sheng Mian and Mian Fen Guo

Similar to De Ji Cooked Food, noodles were nice and firm, holding the soup really well. Soup was starchy, but slightly subtle in terms of taste compared to De Ji Cooked Food. Minced pork were leaner, thus soup wasn't as "cloudy" in comparison. They had a prawn added, which gave it an edge in terms of sweetness.

Conclusion

Although both stalls offer sheng mian, but are somewhat different in terms of soup base. However, our preference will probably lean slightly towards De Ji Cooked Food, just because of their fully soup body. If you disagree with this, do remember that it is our opinion. Food is subjective, and if you think otherwise, do drop us a message within any of our social platforms. ^^

Hunan Pork Belly at Xiang Xiang Hunan: Crunchy, Spicy, and Lip-Smacking Good

You know a dish is that good when you keep coming back for it. And that’s exactly what happened on our third visit to Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine 湘香湖南菜 —this time at AMK Hub. We already had high expectations from our past experiences, but once again, their Hunan pork belly blew us away. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) What Makes This Hunan Pork Belly Stand Out? First off, let’s talk about the star of the show: their Hunan stir fry pork , made with a heavenly combo of Iberico pork belly and lean pork. It’s a dish that really brings out the spirit of Hunan cooking—bold, fragrant, slightly spicy, and loaded with green pepper aromatics. The pork belly is wonderfully fatty and tender, with that unmistakable richness that Iberico pork is known for. The lean pork adds a nice balance so it doesn’t get overly unctuous. And then there's the rabbit ear fungus. Yes, rabbit ear fungus—also known as Mu Er or Yunnan black fungus . It...
