Glutinous Rice 清香八宝 糯米饭 @ Mei Zhen Hakka Delicacies

One of the simplest breakfast yet hard to find a good one, glutinous rice. Savoury sticky rice at Mei Zhen Hakka Delicacies for this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Simplistic breakfast with alluring substance, lumpy yet delicate with its own merit, their glutinous rice was so addictive and delectable. Coated with a subtle aroma of fried shallots, chopped spring onions, the gooey yet firm sticky rice emitted a pleasant sheen and was an enjoyment in every sense. Topped with crunchy peanuts and braised mushroom bits, it was memorable and an absolute treat. The amount was slightly underwhelming for a normal $3 order, but perhaps its not meant to be consumed in huge amount and savoured in moderation. ^^ Mei Zhen Hakka Delicacies Opening Hours Monday Closed Tuesday Closed Wednesday 6am - 1pm Thursday 6am - 1pm Friday 6am - 1pm Saturday 6am - 1pm Sunday 6am - 1pm Mei Zhen Hakka Delicacies Location Address: 320 Shu...

Watashino Hayashi Rice @ Japan Rail Cafe

What to near Tanjong Pagar besides the usual Amoy Street Food Centre? We ventured around and tried out Japan Rail Cafe's Watashino Hayashi Rice for this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Not knowing what to order, we were recommended by their friendly waitress, their hot selling item of Watashino Hayashi Rice, which was made up of a generous portion of Japanese hashed beef stew, consisting of tender sliced beef, onions, and a thick demi-glace sauce made of tomato puree and red wine. On its own, it had an elegance and depth of richness, mainly tasted of tomato, yet elevated with its reduced red wine allure, infused marvelously into their tenderlicious beef slices. Coupled with a thick patty of pork and beef meat patty, which cost an additional $1. Subtly sweet, soft yet held an intricate firmness with a well caramelized crust. Next were 3 beautifully buttered scallops for the umami aspect. These were married to...

Chwee Kueh 水粿 @ Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre

Fancying a light snack at Bukit Timah hawker centre, we decided to go for a simple yet hearty meal of chwee kueh for this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Although spotting the same stall name throughout Singapore, each stall has its own merits and nip picks. For this particular chwee kueh stall at Bukit Timah, chai por or preserved radish were given amply, savoury and crunchy, not too tiny bits, slightly dry which could be slightly greasier for our liking. Kuehs or rice cakes were firm, a teeny weeny too firmed for our liking, hence did not had the silky texture we love. At $2 for 4 pieces, their chwee kuehs are still a nice light meal or a good add on to your main item from other stalls. Chwee Kueh 水粿 Opening Hours and Location 9am - 7pm Daily Address: 51 Upper Bukit Timah Rd, #02-142, Singapore 588215

Duck Kway Chap @ Seah Family Braised Duck Rice

What to eat at Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre? How about some comfort food kway chap? Let's find out how Seah Family Braised Duck Rice's duck kway chap is in this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Let's start off with the usual breakdown. Kway was silky and smooth, submerged in a herby and savoury soup, tasty and soul warming. Braised duck were chopped into bite sized slices, amazingly tender and totally infused with their duck broth, flavourful and delectable, topped with a gravy that was thick and gooey. Half and egg with clumps of tau pok and chunky slices of tau gua that were drenched with all the ducky goodness were included as well. Chili sauce was high on the acidic level, and although it was runny, spicy level was high as well. For a $6 single person order, portion was ample and satisfactory, well, at least for us. For the uninitiated, it is clearly stated that it is DUCK KWAY CHAP. And y...

Taro Skin Turnip Dumpling 水晶芋头笋粄 @ Mei Zhen Hakka Delicacies

Looking for a quick snack that's worth every calories, and satisfying at the same time, we tried out Mei Zhen Hakka Delicacies' taro skin turnip dumplings for this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) 水晶芋头笋粄, or crystal taro with bamboo shoots, had a variety of texture and taste all in a single dumpling. Its skin was delectably chewy and stretchy, with subtle sweetness and savoury. Its filling was fully packed with crunchy goodness. Mushrooms, bamboo shoots, turnips cooked to a perfect doneness, while retaining the crunchy yet tender firmness, complimenting the awesomely made taro skin. A final touch of deep fried fragrant shallots on top elevated its intracity and delicacy. At $1.50 per piece, minimum purchase of 2 pieces, Mei Zhen Hakka Delicacies' Taro Skin Turnip Dumpling or 水晶芋头笋粄 can be a snack or a satisfying meal on its own. Mala Fried Rice @ King of Fried Rice

Besides their usual egg fried rice, King of Fried Rice has a mala version of their delectable fried rice which we had a go for this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Similar to their egg fried rice , every grain of rice was beautifully fried, covered with effusive fried egg. Wok hey was obviously present in every delightful mouthful. But this time round, the rice and egg were laced with their mala paste, adding another level of numbing feeling. Not exactly overwhelming, but suffice to provide a kick to casual diners like us. For those who has higher tolerance, you could perhaps add your own chili on the side for the extra kick. If you like it with shrimp or pork cutlet, it comes at $7.50, and crabmeat and tobiko at $11. At $5 a plate of mala fried rice, it wasn't exactly a different dish, but rather a different variant from their usual egg fried rice. King of Fried Rice Opening Hours and Lo...
