Taiwanese Lu Rou Fan @ Da Xi 大喜

What to eat at Da Xi besides their dumplings? We try out their Taiwanese lu rou fan, or braised meat rice for this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Comes in a small bowl, rice was topped with gravy and tenderlicious braised pork. Savoury and rich in flavour. Each piece of meat had a well balanced ratio of fat and meat, giving each bite a nice combination along with the rice. However, portion was small and somewhat insufficient for us. At $5.80, Da Xi's Taiwanese lu rou fan was fragrant and yummy with quality, but definitely not for one looking for quantity. Da Xi 大喜 Opening Hours & Location 11am - 10pm Daily Address: 1 HarbourFront Walk #02-83/83A, #84 VivoCity, 098585 Click here to follow them and their full list of locations

Bak Chor Mee @ Tai Wah Pork Noodle (AMK)

The famous bak chor mee from Tai Wah Pork Noodle's Ang Mo Kio branch, gets their YumzYumz visit for this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Straying not far from their Hong Lim bak chor mee , noodles were nicely blanched and mixed into their slightly soupy and greasy sauce mix, savoury and spicy, hitting all the right notes. Generous amount of fluffy porky minced pork covered the top, along with soft and tenderlicious pork liver. On the sides were 3 finger sized Tee Poh (dried sole fish) which were crunchy and smoky, elevating the whole dish immensely. The amount of vinegar was spot on, not too overwhelming, while marrying lovingly with the chili sauce and other sauces. The key was perhaps their deep broth which almost had its own lifestream of richness running through it. Hearty and delectable soup with 5 bouncy chewy meatballs and 3 dumplings but with a small about of meat filling. And not to forget a bunch o...

Heng Heng Popiah & Minced Pork Noodles @ Shunfu Mart

One of Singapore's most common hawker food, bak chor mee, coupled with a hearty popiah at Heng Heng for this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Fishballs were the kind with chili and spring onion flakes within, nothing to shout out about. A few slices of fish cakes thrown in, with a single fish dumpling. Minced pork were scattered throughout, along with fried shallots and braised mushrooms which were all common and simplistic. Chili and noodle sauce mix were homely and simple, along with over blanched noodles, easy to eat. Popiah were somewhat more appetizing compared to the noodles. Full of stuffing with its crunchy sweet peanuts most noticeable. Turnips were sweet and savoury while still retaining its subtle crunchiness. Each roll of popiah was $1.70, while their bak chor mee was at $3.50. Portion of noodles were ample with generous ingredients at such pricing. Popiah was tasty and definitely one you can cons...

Waffles were made with buttermilk, sweet and crispy, letting off a crunchy sound when sliced. Drizzled on top were caramelizing maple syrup to increase the sweetness dosage. Following that were 3 thick and long slices of candied bacon, which were extremely sweet, almost like bak kwa, but way sweeter, with a chewy texture. Finally, a scoop of vanilla icecream, the type where you could see the tiny black vanilla beans within, the final sugary dosage. For $15.50 a plate, Atlas Coffeehouse's Candied Bacon Waffle was the absolute dessert for anyone with a sweet tooth. Wurst Rosti @ Atlas Coffeehouse

Famous cafe at Bukit Timah, diagonally opposite Adam Road Food Centre, we made our Atlas Coffeehouse visit and had their Wurst Rosti for this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) This dish consists of a crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside potato rosti, savoury and satisfying. Placed on top were 2 sunny side up eggs, crisp on the edges while retaining a gooey lovely egg yolk. Stated on their menu to be organic, but honestly, they taste the same as any other good eggs. On the side was a huge cheese frank or sausage, juicy and filling. Finally a saucer of tomato chutney, rich and deep flavoured tomato puree, sweet with hints of heat and smokey flavour. It coupled nicely with the eggs and rosti. Stated on their menu was a "bacon fennel pan sauce", which for some reason wasn't present on our plate. Nevertheless, we didn't enquire about it as we were too busy digging in. At $24.60, their cheese...

Hong Sha Li Satay @ Chomp Chomp

Which satay stall to choose when in chomp chomp? We chose the one with the most basic and rustic signage that shouts SATAY for this satay food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Offering a selection of chicken, mutton or pork at 70cents each, with their pineapple peanut sauce. Chicken was tender and savoury, beautifully charred. Mutton was tough but nicely marinated and caramelized charring. The pork skewers were the best, with perfect ratio of fats to meat, tender and juicy, beautifully charred. Skewer portion was ample and acceptable. Rice cake (ketupat) was quite a disappointingly tough. Pineapple sauce was sweet and had an array of texture within. From the crunchy peanut bits to gooey and flurry pineapple zing, every deep was a joy and we cant get enough of it.   Supper at Chomp Chomp has got to have some bbq action going. Besides chicken wings and satays, the next item has to be bbq stingray which we are doing for this food review from Fu BBQ Seafood. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) After almost 45minutes of wait, we were served our gloriously fragrant sambal stingray served on a banana leaf. Sambal was greasy and not pasty, seeping nicely into the the flesh of the stingray. Fragrant and savoury with subtle sweetness on the tastebuds. BBQ chicken wing is a must have item when visiting Chomp Chomp, and choices are in abundance and we chose Wang BBQ Chicken Wing for this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Spotting an eye catching neon signage, Wang BBQ Chicken Wing was the only chicken wing stall who was enticing passing customers to come forth. After some deliberation, we made our order and waited for 50 minutes... yes, its that long... Nevertheless, their bbq chicken wings were savoury, subtly sweet, and definitely greasy and juicy. Beautifully charred, with tenderlicious flesh and caramalized skin. Their homemade chili sauce was the ultimate punch, thick and spicy. Coating which bite was marvelously satisfying. Chicken wing size was small but ample as a side dish. They cost $1.40 per piece, with orders at minimum 2 pieces. Alittle steep for a small chicken wing, but thats what the pricing are these days. Tasty with full on s...

Dakgalbi @ Hoodadak Korean Restaurant

Korean food at Fusionopolis Hoodadak, which always crowded and popular among the office workers in the area. We got ourselves their dakgalbi for this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) A little search and we got to know that dak means chicken, and galbi means ribs. And there isn't any ribs in this dish. In the past, pork ribs ( dweji galbi ) were expensive for everyday grilling. Hence restaurants replaced it with similarly flavored dish with chicken and named it dak galbi. Hoodadak's dakgalbi, or stir fried spicy chicken, was served luke warm, sticky and effusive fragrance. Sticky texture with spicy and sweet taste, its exterior were crispy and well caramalized. Topped with sesame seeds and spring onions for garnish and subtle fragrance. Inside flesh were thoroughly cooked and tenderlicious. Stated in their menu was its total weight of 180g of spicy sweet chicken, the set comes with rice, th...
