Unwrapping Delight: A Taste Adventure with Kakinoha-Zushi in Nara

If you ever find yourself strolling down the vibrant Higashimuki Shopping Street in Nara, make a pit stop at the quaint Kakinohasushi Hompo Tanaka shop. Why? Well, that's where we unearthed the hidden gem – the famed Kakinoha-Zushi, a local delight that tickled our taste buds and left us craving for more.

Unveiling Kakinoha-Zushi

Kakinoha Zushi, or "Persimmon Leaf Sushi," is a culinary masterpiece that finds its roots in the heart of Nara prefecture. However, it has spread its aromatic wings across all of Kansai. Imagine a box filled with seven bite-sized wonders; each encapsulated in the delicate embrace of persimmon leaves.

The Contents: A Symphony of Flavors

As we eagerly opened the box, we were greeted by an ensemble of colors and textures. Furthermore, two slices of sea bream, two of salmon, and three of mackerel formed a harmonious composition that promised a culinary journey like no other.

A Fragrant Affair

The fish slices, a testament to the region's seafood prowess, carried a subtle hint of saltiness that danced on our taste buds. Yet, what truly set the Kakinoha-Zushi apart was the fragrance imparted by the persimmon leaf. It wasn't just a wrapper; it was an identity, a signature scent that elevated each sushi's character.

A Unique Experience

With every bite, we savored the melding of flavors – the oceanic richness of the fish, the earthiness of the persimmon leaf, and the umami that lingered on our palates. Consequently, Kakinoha-Zushi was a culinary masterpiece, a symphony of taste that was uniquely Nara.

Worth the Try

For those willing to venture beyond the ordinary, Kakinoha-Zushi is a must-try. Indeed, it's not just a meal; it's an experience that encapsulates the essence of Nara's gastronomic heritage.

Hooi Kee’s Hong Kong Style Roasted Char Siew and Roasted Chicken Rice: A Decent Meal?

Looking for what to eat in Ang Mo Kio, we got ourselves a simple order of char siew rice with roasted chicken for this round of chicken rice food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Char siew pieces were fatty and lean, a good ratio combination, with the fats roasted to a melt in your mouth consistency. We loved the gravy that drizzled onto the charred and caramelized parts, which elevated its taste and flavour. Coupled with the tenderlicious roasted chicken, which was soft and juicy even for their breast meat. Skin was crisp and tasted lovely with their briny sauce. Rice was fragrant and not greasy, and somewhat addictive together with the char siew gravy and chicken sauce. Chili was mundane, runny and spicy, complimenting the rice and chicken perfectly. @yumzyumzsg Hooi Kee Hong Kong Style Roasted - Roasted Chicken Rice with Char Siew Visit YumzYumz.com for their food review. #sgfood #foodlover #foodreview #f...

Hunan Pork Belly at Xiang Xiang Hunan: Crunchy, Spicy, and Lip-Smacking Good

You know a dish is that good when you keep coming back for it. And that’s exactly what happened on our third visit to Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine 湘香湖南菜 —this time at AMK Hub. We already had high expectations from our past experiences, but once again, their Hunan pork belly blew us away. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) What Makes This Hunan Pork Belly Stand Out? First off, let’s talk about the star of the show: their Hunan stir fry pork , made with a heavenly combo of Iberico pork belly and lean pork. It’s a dish that really brings out the spirit of Hunan cooking—bold, fragrant, slightly spicy, and loaded with green pepper aromatics. The pork belly is wonderfully fatty and tender, with that unmistakable richness that Iberico pork is known for. The lean pork adds a nice balance so it doesn’t get overly unctuous. And then there's the rabbit ear fungus. Yes, rabbit ear fungus—also known as Mu Er or Yunnan black fungus . It...
