Oriental Kopi JB: The Ultimate Chicken Horfun and Kopi Conquest

Conquering Breakfast Queues for Oriental Kopi JB

Let's be real, who willingly wakes up at the crack of dawn on a holiday just to queue for food? Well, apparently, we do. And so do about 15 other brave souls who, like us, rocked up to Oriental Kopi JB at Mid Valley Southkey in Johor Bahru at 8:30 AM, a full half-hour before they even open. The things we do for a good breakfast, right? By 8:45 AM, the queue behind us was longer than our patience for Singaporean traffic on a long weekend. But hey, when a place is this popular, you know you're in for a treat.

Diving Deep into the Oriental Kopi JB Menu

We were ravenous, having strategically arrived early to beat the impending jam. Our mission: a full-on breakfast feast. And feast we did! We ordered enough to feed a small army, or at least four very hungry foodies. The total bill came up to a very reasonable RM 113.60 for a spread that left us utterly satisfied. Let's break down the highlights, starting with the star of the show.

The Glorious Oriental Chicken Hor Fun: A Broth-tastic Revelation

Alright, let's talk about the Oriental Chicken Hor Fun (RM 19.90). If you're a soup noodle enthusiast, prepare to have your mind blown. This wasn't just soup; it was a liquid hug, a flavour explosion, a warm embrace for your soul. The broth was so deep, so rich, it tasted like it had been simmering for days with all the love and secrets of a hundred grandmas. And the chicken? Not just a few paltry strands, but generous, tender shreds piled high. They weren't stingy on the toppings either, with two plump, fresh, and delightfully crunchy prawns, some crisp bean sprouts, a smattering of greens, and delicate slices of fish cake. But honestly, the broth was the MVP. I'm still dreaming about it.

Nasi Lemak Nirvana and Other Breakfast Victories

Beyond the magnificent chicken horfun, our table was a culinary battlefield of deliciousness. The Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken Meat (RM 19.90) was pure poetry. The rice was so fragrant, each grain perfectly cooked and bursting with coconut milk goodness – not a mushy or clumpy bit in sight. And the sambal chili? Oh, the sambal! Thick, intense, a perfect balance of sweet and spicy, it was the kind of sambal you'd happily eat by the spoonful. The peanuts and ikan bilis were perfectly crunchy and seasoned, and the fried chicken was a revelation – deep-fried deliciousness that almost had the flavour profile of a giant, boneless satay stick. The egg, a beautifully round and perfectly runny-yolked masterpiece, oozed out its golden goodness when poked. Unlike those sad, overcooked eggs you often get, this one was a work of art.

We also sampled the Original Traditional Ban Mian, Dry Noodle (RM 13.90). The noodles were delightfully chewy and QQ, coated in a savoury sauce that clung to every strand. It came with shredded chicken, fish cakes, and another one of those perfectly cooked, runny-yolked eggs. A generous log of crispy fried shallots, savoury ikan bilis, and some blanched greens completed the dish. Plus, a side of soup with three mini fishballs for good measure. It was simply delicious.

Egg Tarts and Satisfying Drinks

No breakfast is complete without something sweet and something to wash it all down. Their egg tarts (RM 10.80 for two, or RM 32.40 for six) were heavenly. These Portuguese-style beauties boasted a wonderfully flaky, fragrant crust and a creamy, delicious custard filling. Seriously, get six. You won't regret it.

And the drinks! The Kopi Cincau Cold (RM 10.80) was thick and robust, a perfect pick-me-up. The Kopi Hot Small (RM 6.80) and Teh Cold Large (RM 9.80) were equally generous and satisfying. You could really taste the quality in every sip.

The Oriental Kopi JB Experience: Beyond the Food

It wasn't just the food that impressed us. The service at Oriental Kopi JB was top-notch – friendly, prompt, and efficient, even with the insane crowds. It’s clear they run a tight ship. They even sell their in-house brand of goodies, like Pandan Kaya (RM 9.10), Traditional Kaya (RM 10.90), and their legendary Nasi Lemak Sambal Chili (RM 16.90). You can literally take the taste of Oriental Kopi home with you!

Open daily from 9 AM to 10 PM, this place is a must-visit if you're ever in JB. Despite the early morning queue, the entire experience was incredibly "shiok" and totally worth every minute. Our full and satisfying breakfast for four left us ready to conquer the rest of our day trip. So, next time you're craving some seriously good food in Johor Bahru, you know where to go – just make sure you get there early!

Xiang Di Mi Fen Pasir Panjang Food Centre – Fatty Ipoh Noodles Review

When you think of crispy noodle dishes, most of us immediately picture the classic deep-fried yee mee swimming in luscious egg sauce gravy. But over at  Fatty Ipoh Noodles (肥仔怡保炒粉)  in  Pasir Panjang Food Centre , there’s something different sizzling away on the wok. Enter the  Xiang Di Mi Fen (香底米粉)  – a rare twist that swaps out yee mee for bee hoon, and the results are worth every crunchy bite. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) What makes Xiang Di Mi Fen special? Here’s the magic: instead of sturdy yee mee, the hawker goes with delicate bee hoon. Deep-frying bee hoon isn’t as straightforward – it’s finer, more brittle, and breaks more easily, which means it takes extra skill to get it golden, crispy, and ready to hold up under a blanket of silky gravy. That’s already a show of craft. The glorious egg sauce gravy Once the fried bee hoon hits the plate, it’s doused with a  luxurious egg sauce gravy  that cl...

Experience Spicy and Savory Flavors with Ng Kuan’s Chilli Pan Mee Pork Cutlet Ban Mian

Looking for a tasty late night meal around Hougang Kovan area? We headed down for Ng Kuan Chilli Pan Mee for their 炸猪肉板面, spicy noodles with their delish pork cutlet for this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Their noodles were amazingly springy, coupled with their awesome thick chili that was spicy and marbled with texture. Mixed together with their noodles and you get a delectable and tremendously satisfying combi. Thrown into the mix was an egg with runny yolk for the added smoothness and silky texture added to the noodles. For the crunchy department comes in the form of savoury crunchy ikan bilis, as well as crispy deep fried shallots and garlic for the uplifting flavour and aromatics. On the side, we had their deep fried pork cutlet, chopped into bite-sized chunks. They were fabulously deep in distinct flavour, crunchy and varying and superior in taste and texture. Although greasy, it was a marvelous pairi...

Hunan Pork Belly at Xiang Xiang Hunan: Crunchy, Spicy, and Lip-Smacking Good

You know a dish is that good when you keep coming back for it. And that’s exactly what happened on our third visit to Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine 湘香湖南菜 —this time at AMK Hub. We already had high expectations from our past experiences, but once again, their Hunan pork belly blew us away. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) What Makes This Hunan Pork Belly Stand Out? First off, let’s talk about the star of the show: their Hunan stir fry pork , made with a heavenly combo of Iberico pork belly and lean pork. It’s a dish that really brings out the spirit of Hunan cooking—bold, fragrant, slightly spicy, and loaded with green pepper aromatics. The pork belly is wonderfully fatty and tender, with that unmistakable richness that Iberico pork is known for. The lean pork adds a nice balance so it doesn’t get overly unctuous. And then there's the rabbit ear fungus. Yes, rabbit ear fungus—also known as Mu Er or Yunnan black fungus . It...
