Claypot Rice @ New Lucky Claypot Rice

New Lucky Claypot Rice has been a frequent listing on the Michelin Bib Gourmand for multiple years. YumzYumz tries out and reviews if their claypot rice is really that good. First off, if you do not have spare time to wait, it is highly recommended that you do not try it. They have a disclaimer signage that states that waiting time during non-peak is around 30 to 45minutes. It will be 60 to 90 minutes during peak and during VERY peak period will be may need another 10 to 20minutes. So be warned. We got ours after 20 minutes or so, where we ordered at 11am during a weekday. It came steaming hot, with a charring aroma. Mixing in the accompanying dark soy sauce and oil to our preference to their fragrant rice. Although at first glance the rice was slightly wet, but after mixing it all up, it was perfectly mixed and dry. As the claypot was still scorching hot, the rice at the bottom was still charring and burnt. However, to every claypot fan, the charred rice is actually one of the e...

Fried Oyster 蚝煎 @ Chomp Chomp Fried Oyster

Having supper at Chomp Chomp is impossible to not have fried oyster omelette or orh luak, the gooey wok hey omelette with oysters added in. YumzYumz tried out Chomp Chomp Fried Oyster, which is aptly the stall's name. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Potato starch being the important ingredient to achieve the right consistency, they certainly got their measurements all in place. Fried egg was gooey and absolutely fragrant, with certain parts beautifully charred and crispy. Oysters tasted fresh and chewy, lovely married with the eggs, and chili sauce. Chili sauce was tangy, zesty and spicy, elevating the whole dish's taste. We got the $5 order, and portion was quite alright, with about 6~7 oysters, but taste was amazingly satisfying. Aromatic Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodles @ Chia Keng Fried Hokkien Mee

One of the two stalls that sells fried hokkien prawn noodles at Chomp Chomp, YumzYumz tried out Chia Keng Fried Hokkien Mee and here is our review of it. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) This is a wet version of hokkien noodles, and it had an intense and deep wok hei flavour. Smokey and umami infused noodles that has soaked up whatever sweet potent stock they had brewed. Gooey and soft noodles, with pork lard bountifully added, the emitted aroma was absolutely inviting. Crispy deep fried pork lard was added on top for the needed crunchy texture. Ingredients were sparsely found, with 3 to 4 slices of chewy squid, and 2 medium sized prawns. Finally, their chili sauce/paste was zesty and spicy, which elevated their rich, intense, wok hei filled noodles. For a $4 order, its portion and ingredients were somewhat underwhelming. Quality was fantastic, but quantity could be better. Still yummy though. ^^ Chia Keng Fried Hokkien M...

Ang Mo Kio 453 Wanton Mee: The Hawker Gem of Popularity

In the heart of Mayflower Hawker Centre, there's a culinary sensation that has tongues wagging and chopsticks clinking - Ang Mo Kio 453 Wanton Mee. This hawker stall, famous for its scrumptious wanton noodles, has garnered a reputation that's nothing short of legendary. We decided to embark on a flavorful adventure to see what the fuss was all about. So, pull up a chair, because we're about to spill the noodles on this local delight! View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) The Early Bird's Dilemma The official word is that Ang Mo Kio 453 Wanton Mee opens at 7:30 am, but local grapevine suggests they usually kickstart their noodle symphony around 8 am. Eager to get a taste of the action, we arrived at 7:30 am sharp, only to be met with a surprising sight. A group of about 15 early risers had already gathered, placing their preorders like seasoned pros. Naturally, we didn't want to be left behind, so we jumped on t...

Satisfying Laksa @ Quan Xing Mei Shi

Besides vegetarian beehoon, prawn noodles and wanton noodles at Mayflower hawker, there is also laksa by Quan Xing Mei Shi, which will definitely whet any laksa fan's appetite. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Creamy and spicy laksa gravy, deep with flavour and not those chili powder texture, it had a strong coconut milk taste and tiny bits of dried prawns. Topping well blanched thick beehoon were a mountain of generous ingredients. These includes fluffy spongey tau pok, plenty of fish cakes, bean sprouts for the extra crunch, a scope of their spicy and irresistible chili sauce to assault the taste buds and enhance the gravy. Lastly, a generous scoop of cockles to complete any laksa meal, tasted fresh and bloody. Yummilicious! At a mere $3, we got a bowl of accentuating laksa dish that had the alluring perfumed laksa fragrance and richness in terms of quantity and quality. Recommended! Wanton Noodles @ Soon Heng Handmade Noodle

One of the few stalls in Mayflower Market and Food Centre selling wanton mee, we tried out Soon Heng Handmade Noodle here is YumzYumz review of it. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) First off, charsiew slices were savoury and sweet, but lack the extra mile of caramelization, and most of it were fatty parts. There were 2 wantons, which were plump and tasty, but lack the extra bite, with water chestnut or sorts. But still quite a mouthful. Next were 2 deep fried wantons for the needed crunchy texture. Finally, we believe their noodles and sauce mix were the star, as it had the charred or caramelized chili sauce mixed into their deep and flavourful sauce, that held nicely onto the well blanched noodles. At the price of $3 for such a generous portion of wanton noodles and variety, it was definitely worth every cent. Ah Gong Signature Noodles @ Ah Gong Teochew Noodle

What to eat at Whampoa market? Bright and simple signage, Ah Gong Teochew Noodle churns out a unique and fulfilling bowl of noodles. Let's dive in further. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Paired with their unique utensils and bowl, was their neatly plated bowl of yummilicious noodles. With perfectly matched garnishes of spring onions and crispyfried onions, Ah Gong's teochew noodles has one of the most amazing minced pork on the side. Minced pork were gooey yet held a light chunky texture to each bite. It had a mild peppery taste, but enough to whet your appetite for the array of other ingredients. This was by far the best among the whole dish. Fishballs were presumably handmade, came in a pair, small in size yet packs a punch in terms of texture and taste, which wasn't overly salty. A single deep fried meatball, similarly small, but it was dense and full of flavour. Next was a thick and "meaty" fried f...

Braised Duck Rice @ Liang Zhao Ji 梁照记

One of the better known stalls in Singapore for their braised duck rice, Liang Zhao Ji 梁照记 has been around for decades, and hopefully many more decades to come. Located at Whampoa Food Centre, Liang Zhao Ji was previously listed in Singapore Michelin Bib Gourmand 2017 and 2016. However, they were left out in subsequent years. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Queuing for their famous braised duck rice is somewhat of a mental challenge, as the customers infront of us were ordering in multiple packs of 6, 10 and even 20 packs. We got our fix of their braised duck rice, and we were definitely not dissapointed. The duck flesh were not overtly tender, retaining a degree of bite to it and its mellow dark soy sauce flavour. Its skin were gelatin-like and had a touch of elegance to it. Its rice was rich and potently flavourful, every grain was infused deeply with its rich duck flavour and fat. A healthy pour of their thick and all...

Pork Ribs Prawn Noodle @ Adam Road Noo Cheng Big Prawn Noodle

What to eat at Adam Road Food Centre? YumzYumz visited Noo Cheng Adam Road Big Prawn Mee, and tried out their pork ribs prawn noodles. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) It was 11am on a weekday, and there was already a long queue despite social distancing and limited to 2 pax per table. Each customer was greeting warmly even though they were extremely busy. We tried out their dry pork ribs and prawn noodles to get the best of both worlds, soup on the sides and noodles sauce mix. For a $6 order, we got 2 chunks of tenderlicious pork ribs, which fell right off its soft bones. Flavour was immensely infused to every crevice and fibre. There were 2 slices of jelly-liked pork skin, although somewhat flavourless, but it definitely provided the needed bouncy and crunchy texture. Next was their prawns, 5 halved prawns, undevein, flesh sticking to the shells. Noodles were nicely blanched, with a intense sau...
