Curry Fried Chicken Cutlet Noodles @ Cantonese Delights

One of the popular stalls at Hong Lim, Cantonese Delights commands one of the long snakey queues during lunch time. We tried out their curry fried chicken cutlet noodles in this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) First off, chicken cutlet was absolutely tenderlicious and chunky, with crispy savoury skin. Soaked into their creamy curry elevated its taste with a varied and intensifying flavour. Although soggy thereafter, it was perhaps what everyone queueing up for it was looking to sink their teeth in. Curry was creamy, coconut milk fragrance was effusive, not the sweet kinda curry and good level of spiciness. The type of noodles were the usual mee kia, springy, not too chewy, and the curry held on really well. At $4.50, it was perhaps slightly underwhelming in terms of portion against the price. But quality was definitely awesome. Worth noting was how friendly and courteous the auntie was when taking orders and...

Deep Fried Intestine @ Quan Lai Kway Chap 泉来粿汁王

Where to find deep fried intestines? We tried out Quan Lai at MacPherson for their deep fried intestine in this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Fried to a golden brown, these chunky deep fried intestines resembles fried fritters (you tiao), but its taste and texture was far from it. The inside were slightly gooey, compared to the crusty exterior, and they somewhat tough and required some jaw power to chew them down. Taste was strong and almost like a concentration of the whole pig intestine within each chunk. We would say it has an acquired taste and won't be pleasant to some, but enjoyable to others. Dipping it into their pungent and spicy chili sauce was one way to cover the overwhelming taste and still had an enjoyable time. We got the smallest sized order at $12, and the amount served was ample for us to sample and get a taste of it. Pricing starts from $12, $18, $24, $30. If you are a fan of deep fried ...

Kway Chap @ Quan Lai Kway Chap 泉来粿汁王

What to eat around MacPherson area for supper? How about Quan Lai's kway chap which we visited for this kway chap food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Let's talk about the kway first. It was silky and smooth, submerged in a light and savoury soy based soup, not too heavy on the palette, most suitable for a supper night out. Next up was their intestines. No foul smell, thoroughly cleaned, chewy and totally drenched inside out with their heavy thick gravy. Tau gua was soft yet packs a nice mouthful in every bite, and again full of flavour from the gravy. Same goes to their tau pok, squishy and drenched in gravy with a different texture. Braised meat was impeccable and rich, not too gamey, retaining its flavour with the gravy elevating its taste. Tenderlicious and irresistible. If you cant get enough of it, they have a meal upgrade to have an extra plate of braised duck meat to satisfy your meat cravings. Chili ...

Pig Trotters @ Soon Lee Pig’s Organ Soup

We got some braised pig trotters along with their pig organ soup at Soon Lee Pig’s Organ Soup . Let's find out how we faired their pig trotters in this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Lean meat vs fat ratio was balanced and harmonizing, with a pleasant sheen on its collagen filled skin. Springy and gelatin-liked skin went well with white rice, at 60cents a bowl. Flesh were tenderlicious, soaked and braised thoroughly with their gravy. Gravy was somewhat light, and runny, not the kind of thick consistency like Yong Ji Bak Kut Teh's pig trotters . Chili sauce was deep and hearty, with subtle acidic component. Quantity was somewhat dissapointing with 3 chunky portions. There were a couple of pig hair found on the skin which was somewhat off putting. Priced at $4.20 for small which we got, and $6.20 for large. Soon Lee Pig’s Organ Soup's Pig Trotters quality was satisfactory but probably not the same cou...

Pig Organ Soup with Minced Pork Rice @ Soon Lee Pig’s Organ Soup

Where to find rich and full of depth pig organ soup? Soon Lee Pig's Organ Soup at Zion Riverside Food Centre spots a modern stall front. Lets find out how was their pig organ soup in this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Minced pork were soft and fluffy, drenched in light gravy, not what we expected. We were expecting thick gooey gravy, enveloping every minute crevasses. Nevertheless, gravy was still amply savoury, along with the delectable minced pork. on the sides were 2 halved braised eggs and some savoury and subtly sweet salted vegetables. On its own would have cost $3, which wasn't that affordable considering its small portion. Next up would be their star item of pig organ soup. Potent and accentuating, it had depth that has complexity and richness that showcase the laborious amount of work put into it. Cloudy with bits of pork, every mouthful assaults the senses and had the intricate and pleas...

138 Kway Chap & Porridge @ Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre

Where to get nice kway chap? Is there nice kway chap in Bukit Timah Market? We head down to try out 138 Kway Chap & Porridge for this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Kway was silky smooth, infused with the dark savoury gravy, which wasn't overpowering yet delivering the needed soy sauce flavour. The mixed plate assortment of ingredients was definitely a treat. It comprises of salted vegetables, mildly savoury and crunchy. Halved spiced fishball was springy and pleasantly satisfying. Small and large intestines were without any hint of foul smell, thoroughly washed and perfectly braised, chewy and infused with their delectable gravy. Pig skin was almost jelly-liked, elegant and accentuating. Taupoks were soaking with their laboriously made gravy, yet still retaining its fluffy texture, giving the bitful satisfaction. Braised meat was an absolute treat, tenderlicious, while still having its irresistible mea...

Black Carrot Cake @ 134 Yong Ji Traditional Carrot Cake

Serving only black carrot cake, 134 Yong Ji Traditional Carrot Cake is found within the labyrinth of stalls in Bukit Timah hawker. Let's take a look at htis black carrot cake food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Hawkers who specialize in just 1 item, usually churn out some mind blowing foods. However in this case, we were far from being mind blown. No doubt some bits were nice and caramelized, some were badly burnt and charred. Eggs were generously added, mixed in with dark sweet sauce, but chai por were far and wide scarce. Kway was extremely mushy, way too soft and chopped into way too tiny bits for our liking and severely lacking in the fried garlic aroma department. Price from $2.50, $3, $4, we got the $2.50 size and the portion was fairly given and ample as a side dish. For a $2.50 black carrot cake, quantity was sufficient but quality was begging for more. Not an item where you would travel far and wide for...

Roasted Chicken Rice @ 3 Hainan Chicken Rice

Besides Seng Heng chicken rice at Bukit Timah hawker, there is also 3 Hainan Chicken Rice. We find out how their chicken rice is in this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) First impression was great, greeted by the friendly uncles even though they were busy prepping. Plating was simple and straightforward. As usual, we got breast meat to gauge the usual chicken rice test. Surprisingly, even though it looked dried out and tough on the visual test, the flesh was marvelously tenderlicious and subtly savoury, with scraps of roasted skin left on. Perhaps it could do better with slightly more skin on. Looks so naked and bare ^^ Rice had the perfumed fragrance, intricately separated and fluffy, with the right texture providing the yummilicious bite. Coupled harmoniously well with their thick and effusive chili sauce which was full of depth and spicy. Finally on the side was a bowl of hearty, intense yet mellow...

Century Egg Pork Porridge @ Zhou Pin 粥品 Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre

Where to find good porridge in Bukit Timah market? How about Zhou Pin 粥品's porridge? We find out how their century egg pork porridge faired in this food review. View this post on Instagram A post shared by YumzYumz.com (@yumzyumzsg) Silky yet full bodied, Zhou Pin's porridge tasted subtly savoury and had a varied texture. Delicate and effusive, the resultant congee was memorable and appetite stimulating. The fried shallots, chopped spring onions and white pepper elevated its flavour and taste. Amount of chopped century egg bits were ample and sufficient to have its pungent taste infuse into the porridge. Pork slices were ample in thickness, tasty with simplistic marination. Part of a youtiao was added into the mix, and our pet peeve was perhaps it wasn't entirely a full youtiao. More like 3/4 of a youtiao, as if a quarter of it was munched off. Nevertheless, it was a harmoniously and laboriously created bowl of comforting porridge. The ...
